Saturday Nov. 9 1974 between 7-7:30 p.m. a light was observed flying across the sky, hover over a small lake and desend into the lake. While in the lake the object emitted a pulsating glow. Two days later the authorities recovered a six volt railroad lantern that they claimed was the culprit.

During in the mid-90's when I had a Compuserve account I was browsing files in Compuserve UFO forum I ran across a file that had been posted by Ron Hannivig. Mr. Hannivig. claimed that a UFO had crashed into a small lake in the town of Carbondale, Pennsylvania.

I had heard about the well known crash "retrievals" in Roswell, New Mexico and Kecksburg, Pennsylvania. But a crash retrieval from a small Pennsylvania town? Never heard of it.

The possibility that a UFO might have been recovered in a urban area only 20 odd years ago intrigued me. It might easy to locate witness. What the hell I thought "I have a friend in Pennsylvania ought to pay him a visit and go to Carbondale"- road trip!

I was off to Carbondale, stopping and picking up my friend along the way. We arrived in Carbondale on July 7 1996.Although I was only able to spend a few hours in Carbondale, it was time well spent. Everyone that I talked to had heard about the "incident" or had been present during the "incident". This is just what a few of them had to say:

"they saw a red light cross the sky, turn orange then it dropped into the lake"

"if there was nothing in the pond why did the cops shoot at it?"

"I saw big trucks with tarps on them. I saw a truck with NASA on it."

The above is all that I have left of my ( notes) conversation with various people. I did not plan on ever doing anything with the information that I gathered- I got careless and lost them. I did however come away with plenty of documentation in the form of newspapers and a report by Robert D Barry of the 20th Century U.F.O. Bureau.

I later found out that one of the witness has admitted to placing the lantern in the lake as a joke. Check out "The(Scranton) Sunday Times" November 7, 1999 for details. Also go to A First hand Account by Jerry Palko.

I still think that something out of the ordinary did indeed happen. Click on the links below, read the material and make up your own mind.
